WS_FTP32
This program is an FTP client.  It allows you to FTP (or transfer large files using File Transfer Protocol) files to an FTP site.  The above link is a complete  installation file for WS_FTP32.

If you prefer to only download the files necessary for the program to run, without the installation component (smaller file, faster download), click here.  You will have to launch the file "C:\Wsftp32\Ws_ftp32.exe" - the default (of the extraction program) file name.   You may use Windows Explorer to browse to this file.

Solving the Winmail.dat problem with Microsoft Outlook
Users who use Outlook for email often send email to recipients other than Outlook users.  These other users often find that a file "winmail.dat" is attached to the email.  Also, normal attachments often come through as "winmail.dat" and are un-readable by the recipient.  To fix this problem, please refer to the links below from the Microsoft support site.

WinZip 8.1
Many clients have asked about Zipping files.  The best utility out there today is WinZip.  Click Here to obtain a copy of WinZip.  This program is a " straightforward, fast, and easy-to-use zipping and unzipping utility." It gets our top recommendation.

HOW TO STOP MESSENGER POPUP WINDOWS!!!

The problem is related to having the Messenger service running. You will need to stop this service and disable it from starting again. Most people do not see this problem if they are behind a firewall.

  • Click the "Start" button, select "Run"
  • In the "Open" box, type "services.msc" - without the double quotes
  • Click the "OK" button
  • Double-click the entry called "Messenger" - you may have to scroll to see it
  • Click the "Stop" button to close the Messenger service
  • In the "Startup Type" combo box, select "Disabled" this prevents Messenger from automatically loading the next time you start your computer
  • Close the "Services" window

This fix does not apply to Internet Explorer pop-up windows, or other HTML pop-ups.

You should be aware that this disables the network messaging service which may be used by some corporations to send company-wide messages.  If you are part of a company client-server network, you should check with your administrator before making this change to your system.

Internet Speed Test
Have you ever wondered how fast your internet connection really is?  Click on the link above to test your internet speed.

Try the test at different times of the day to help determine the optimal time of the day to surf, or try the test at different locations with different connection types (dial-up vs. cable) to determine the fastest connection speed.

The upload speed is usually slower than download speed.  This is by design of the ISP that you have.  They reserve fast upload speeds for their web host customer paying the big bucks for access.

This test will help you to understand the value of a fast internet connection.  Our internet connection typically runs at 6 Mbps for download and about 360 Kbps for upload, now that's fast!

Thanks to Speakeasy.net for the test.

The TCP/IP Fix

  2. c:>netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
  3. Hit the enter key
